In 1976 Porsche found itself without an entry-level model. The 914 had just ended production, and its successor, the 924, was not yet ready for the American market. The solution that emerged was as practical as it was unusual: Porsche still had a stock of engines from the 914, with no car left to put them in, and simply fitted them into the body of the 911. That is how the name 912E was revived, intended purely to bridge the gap of one model year until the 924 arrived. The 2.0 litre flat-four, sourced from the Volkswagen Type 4 and used in the 914, produces 90 hp at 4,900 rpm through Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection. Visually, the 912E is a fully fledged G-series 911, with only the round hubcaps of the original 912 hinting at its predecessor. Porsche built the 912E exclusively for the American market, from May 1975 to mid-1976, totalling 2,099 examples. This particular example is the 1,069th of the 2,099 cars built. The car was originally delivered in the United States, finished in white with a beige leather interior, a five-speed manual gearbox and 14-inch Fuchs wheels. After import to Europe, the car underwent a complete restoration, including engine overhaul, interior renewal and bodywork repair. Fun fact: the 912E is the only Porsche in history designed from the drawing board to last less than a year. The moment the 924 appeared in American showrooms, the 912E disappeared from the lineup just as quickly. Performance: 0-100 km/h in 13,5s Top Speed: 178 km/h - In 1976 zat Porsche zonder instapmodel.
